Why Are Spell Bags Useful?

Spell bags are an incredibly useful, versatile and easy method to bring spell-weaving into your everyday life. I use spell bags very regularly as you’ll have seen from my posts and a big part of the reason why I rely on them so much is because they’re so easy to put together. With all of my bags, I try and plan them out or do a little bit of research before I put them together. Although I consult a lot of books when preparing them, I also use google as there are so many other wonderful witchy sites that are full of relevant information. A couple I always end up at are:

• The Magickal Cat– a great website for information about crystal properties.

• Future Point– fantastic information all about colours and their associations.

Both of these sites have helped me plan out all my spell bags including my Anti-Energy Vampire bag and my Good Travels bag that I carry in my car every day.

Because of how much I have going on in my life I often don’t have the time to complete a full ritual for what I need which is why I love the spell bags. They’re quick to put together and although, I might think of the actual spell bag weeks in advance, I usually end up throwing it together about half an hour before I need to use it which means I always end up using things I have around my house.

You can use herbs that you have in the kitchen (or that you have collected), crystals that you’ve picked up over the years and simple bits from around the house like glitter, paper and essential oils. If you don’t have those things, then you can use colour, pebbles, glitter and other things to represent what you want the bag to have in it.For me, by the time I’ve researched, planned in the time and gotten all of the items together, the need for a full ritual has usually passed meaning that the spell wouldn’t have the same full effect as the spell bag. But with the spell bag I can think of what I need it for in the moment I need it and throw it together.

Rituals tend to release and work their magic slowly, over days/weeks and are great for working energy on things that are going to take such as bringing people closer together, drawing in prosperity or to help with finding a new job or home. Whereas with spell bags, they are great for when you need to invoke the energy for an exact thing at the moment it happens such as to help calm a difficult situation or to bring luck for a specific reason. Whilst planning the bag and putting it together, I try to think about my intention and what I want to use the bag for. If you do the same with yours, you can move the bag through my hands when you need to so that you can invoke bag’s magic at the exact time you need it.

Spell bags make for fantastic, easy ways of bringing that extra bit of special energy into your life using items that you have about the house. They’re quick, easy and I love them as a more immediate invocation of energy as opposed to rituals.
